Cole Chang
Born in Brooklyn, NY
Lives & works in Berkeley, CA
Cole Chang is a biracial Chinese-American artist and poet. His work examines what it means to be, and who gets to be, "American." He manipulates objects in order to explore the consequences of assimilation and question cultural authenticity. He makes art that deconstructs the mythologized “West,” and presents himself and his family on their own terms. He hopes to help heal his father's scars through recognizing the past and building towards a more expansive definition of heritage.
